Downtown Chicago

You don’t have to be Irish to enjoy St. Patrick’s Day in Chicago. Start out watching the dyeing of the Chicago River as it turns green before the St. Patrick’s Day Parade … and you don’t have to worry; the dye is safe for fish and only lasts for a few hours.

Watch all the floats decorated in honor of this fun holiday as they make their way through Grant Park as you listen to bagpipes and watch Irish dancers entertain the crowds as the parade passes by. This year’s parade will be held on Saturday, March 11th. Start out the day with a St. Paddy’s Day 5K and 8K Run with its trail along Lincoln Park. You can even wear your best green outfit to make the run more festive and a chance to win the costume contest. After the parade, plan to enjoy a St. Patrick’s Day cruise where you can experience an Irish-style lunch buffet and cash bar. The cruise lasts 75 minutes and is offered at 10AM, noon and 2PM. To find out more about these and other events, check out the St. Patrick’s Day online guide.
