Make-A-Wish Illinois provides many ways to donate in Highwood this weekend, October 5th – 8th at the 8th Annual Great Highwood Pumpkin Festival. The festival kicks off on Thursday, October 5th from 5 PM to 10 PM, with community appreciation night and features free admission, carnival rides, pumpkin carving, live music, and more! The fun continues on Friday, October 6th starting at 4 PM. This activity-packed weekend will feature a full schedule of fun through Sunday, October 8th with costume and pie eating contests, horse-drawn hay rides, a petting zoo, crafts, three stages for music, food and beverages galore, Trick-or-Treating throughout festival grounds and the attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the most pumpkins carved and lit at once! Entry prices for the festival are $3 per day or $5 for a weekend pass. Click here for more information and the official event schedule. For running enthusiasts, don’t miss the opportunity to don your running shoes for Highwood's 2nd Annual Superhero 5K Run/Walk. The race starts Saturday, October 7th at 9 AM. It will begin at the corner of Waukegan and Walker Avenue, in front of The Bent Fork Bakery. Racers will travel through downtown Highwood and historic Fort Sheridan. Participants are encouraged to wear their favorite superhero costume to honor the memory of local Make-A-Wish recipient Samuel Asher Sommer. The entry fee is $35 for the run/walk and race participants are encouraged to register online. All proceeds from both events will be donated to Make-A-Wish Illinois and their effort to grant wishes for children with life-threatening conditions in Illinois.

For another grand racing event consider the Bank of America Chicago Marathon. This race will take place on Sunday, October 8th with gear check beginning at 5:30 AM at Grant Park. Participants will run through 29 of Chicago’s culturally diverse neighborhoods. Both participants and spectators will have a chance to experience the vibrant spirit of Chicago though views of its unique culture and prominent architecture. Either way you may choose to go, it’s sure to be a special fun-filled time for all!
