Daisy Planting Party - Highland Park, IL

In honor of Earth Day, Beanstalk Toyland and Bookstore which is a colorfully decorated store located in the middle of downtown Highland Park, invites children and their parents to learn how to garden. Each child plants his or her own daisy in a clay pot, decorates the pot, and takes it home.  Join in the fun at:

5K for Earth Day

Please join Green Dot Environmental as they celebrate the 2nd Annual 5K for Earth Day presented by Merchants Banc on Saturday, April 23, 2011. Providing a celebration of the intersection of health, the mainstream green movement and diverse community engagement, this 2nd Annual 5K run/walk highlight the best Chicago of the future set against the historic landmarks of Humboldt Park.

Beginning with a family friendly 5k run/walk, the race will culminate at the Humboldt Park boat house with a free Green Living Expo including great music, family entertainment, delicious food, exciting vendors and shopping, environmental education and fun for the whole family. With the support of city councilmen Roberto Maldonado of the 26th Ward, the 5k for Earth Day / Green Living Expo is an  integral part of  his Green initiatives.

This event also goes beyond these neighborhoods as everyone from in and around Chicago was invited to run/walk locally and think globally. They also welcome national and international organizations to participate locally. The Earth Day Network and Global Exchange are just some of the organizations that have joined in their efforts.

For those who will be unable to run, walk or celebrate that day, you may still contribute by way of a charitable donation given to one of the following beneficiaries: The 26th Ward Community Reinvestment Fund, the Humboldt Park Advisory Council. Click 5K for Earth Day / Green Living Expo Donation.

Every participant will receive a high quality organic cotton T-Shirt and recyclable tote bag.  Awards will be given to the top 3  male and female runners.

Earth Day Chicago 2010

Earth Day is celebrated in the US on April 22 and is a day designed to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth's environment. First celebrated in 1970 as a global day of observance of the need to protect the earth, this year marks the 40th anniversary of this holiday. The Chicago area hosts many events each year to celebrate Earth Day. Below are some of the exciting events planned in the area!

5K for Earth Day
This run/walk event takes place on Saturday, April 24th at 8 a.m. along Humboldt Park and Logan Square. Registration fee for runners and walkers is $30 and $35 the day of the event. Fees for children ages 11 to 17 are $20 and children under 10 are free. Stick around after the Earth Day 5K for an all-day Green Living Expo that includes entertainment for the whole family, great food, educational booths on saving the environment and a farmers market. Chicago Kayak Earth Day 2010 Skokie Lagoons
The Chicago Kayak Club will once again be holding their clean up day in celebration of Earth Day. This year's event will take place the Sunday before Earth Day on April 18th from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. The group will be cleaning up Skokie Lagoons. The club will be clearing all trash and debris in the surrounding areas of the Lagoons and along the water's edge. Those with kayaks or canoes are encouraged to participate and will have the opportunity to do their clean up from the water. Gloves, pick sticks and garbage bags will be provided. These items have been generously donated to the club by the Forest Preserve District of Cook County.

Green Your Footprint
GO Green Management will be hosting their
3rd annual Earth Day Celebration on Thursday, April 22nd starting at 5 p.m. with an educational mixer. At 6 p.m. the excitement begins with Veev cocktails, food from local Chicago eateries and great entertainment. Tickets are $30 in advance and $40 at the door. The Earth Day event takes place at Flai.

Scout Seasonal Workshop
If your looking for a great event for the children, then this is the place to celebrate Earth Day. The Scout Seasonal Workshop will be held April 24, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Chicago Botanical Garden. The event will include a scavenger hunt, craft projects and other hands-on activities. Chicago Celebrates Earth Day April 22nd, 2008

I think we are all aware that the environment is becoming increasingly more fragile and we need to take the time to educate ourselves and our families about environmental issues and how we can do our part.

April 22nd is Earth Day and Chicago will be celebrating the environment with numerous events and activities. We encourage you take part in this celebration, with your families,  in an effort to recognize the importance of nature around us and preserving this wonderful planet for generations to come.

A few of the Chicago Earth Day celebrations include:

  • Tuesday, April 22 - Mayor's Office of Special Events - Earth Day Celebration
    Daley Plaza from 10am to 3pm.
  • Tuesday, April 22 - 2008 Alternative Fuel Vehicle Exposition
  • Tuesday, April 22 - Chicago History Museum - The Local Eating Option
  • Saturday, April 26 - Earth Fest - IL Tour of Earth-Sheltered Homes

  • Saturday, April 26 - Chicago Botanic Gardens - Earth Day Walk
